Martin Luther King Jr. Day

Third Monday of January to commemmorate Dr. King's January 15 birthday.

Martin Luther King Jr. (1929-1968) was an Amerian Baptist minister and the most prominent leader of the Civil Rights Movement. He advocated for racial equality through nonviolent protests, inspired by Christian teachings and the philosophy of Mahatma Gandhi. King played a central role in ending legalized segregation in the United States and advancing civil rights for African Americans. Some of his major achievements include the following: Nobel Peace Prize, Presidential Medal of Freedom (posthumously), Congressional Gold Medal (posthumously), and key leadership roles in the Montgomery Bus Boycott, the March on Washington, the Civil Rights Act of 1964, and the Voting Rights Act of 1965.

Ethiopian Orthodox Celebration of Epiphany

Republic Day of India

India's Republic Day is an annual national holiday to commemorate the adoption of the Constitution of India and the nation's transition to a sovereign democratic republic. India gained independence from British rule on August 15, 1947, and adopted their Consitution on November 26, 1949. On January 26, 1950, the Constituent Assembly enacted the Constitution, making India a republic with an elected president.

International Holocaust Remembrance Day is a United Nations designated time that commemorates the day Soviet troops liberated Auschwitz-Birkenau in 1945. Six million Jewish victims and millions of other victims of Nazi persecution are remembered on this solemn occasion. International Holocaust Remembrance Day provides an opportunity for reflection and education regarding human rights and tolerance.
